SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to exchange protected info between a client and a web server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any information. Many tech-savvy customers favor SSH due to the higher security level. The connection is made and the commands are sent through a command line. The offered options depend on the type of hosting service - on a shared server, for instance, files may be relocated or deleted, databases can be imported and exported, and archives could be set up or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your choices are significantly more - the web server and the database server may be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software may be set up and much more. These things are not possible on a shared server, for the reason that full root access is required and all the other customers on that server shall be affected. While SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like OSs, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.
SSH Telnet in Hosting
SSH access is provided with all Linux hosting we offer. With some of them, it's included as standard, while with others it is an additional upgrade which you can add with just a few mouse clicks from your hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access through the section dedicated to it in which you can also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could choose the password that you will use and, if needed, you will be able to change it with a couple of mouse clicks from the same place. All of the commands which may be used with our shared packages are listed inside a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you can easily add it through the hosting CP if necessary - even only for the current month. Either way, you could activate and de-activate the function with just one click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you will find the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you can easily type in the password that you would like to use, since it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as often as you want. A complete list of the commands that can be executed in a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a number of instances. An extra function after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.
